What are u talking? Link that line, in english or estonian doesn't matter. This sounds realy stupid. It is said, that the only official language is estonian. Maybe you should look out some facts, before posting your message next time You can't force to change someones native language, at least not in the free world. But you can teach them new one, or even more than one, without expunging the original.

It doesn't say has to, or should. It says that they do. Meaning, if you don't speak the language, you might as well set your passport on fire and find yourself a new citizenship somewhere else. § 6 of the Estonian Constitution states that The official language of Estonia is Estonian. ( Eesti riigikeel on eesti keel.). Didn't find anything other mentioning the language in this context... Exept that by § 52: The official language of state agencies and local governments shall be Estonian.
In localities where the language of the majority of the residents is not Estonian, local governments may, to the extent and pursuant to procedure provided by law, use the language of the majority of the permanent residents of the locality as an internal working language.
The use of foreign languages, including the languages of national minorities, in state agencies and in court and pre-trial procedure shall be provided by law.

| But some even go to Estonian school, though their language isn't influent..[/quote]
There is a very good reason why those people go to estonian school. This is because all russian schools in estonia were closed by estonian government. I assume that those actions of closing schools are against EU laws...

I think that it kind of breaks laws(EU). For example Russia. I know few people who have russian passports and they don't speak russian(know few basic expressions). At the same time they are not discriminated or asked to "burn their passport". If this happens in Russia, than why can't Estonia do the same? Even beter example. Africa was colonised and than they got freedome. Those countries kept european languages as native ones(local languages are native languages too). Why this can't happen in Estonia? If all native russian speakers will "burn their passport" and find new citizenship, than Estonia would loose about third of its population. This will f*ck up you country.

| I'm afraid Estonia with two official languages during the regime we have now is impossible. The main mission of Estonian government is to protect and preserve estonian culture, people and language. It's something written in the Estonian constitution (might have even been §1). Russian as an official language in Estonia could endanger estonian. | |
