Central Europe

What are the things first comes into your mind about those Central European countries which were also behind the Iron Curtain? What can be heard about us? Have you ever visited any of these? (Poland, Czech Rep. Hungary...)

dont know much about those countries, feels like Poland is haveing good relations with Estonia and better in future.

I know Poland is angry with Russia for not letting their meat into the country.

I'v been to Poland, Czech Rep., Hungary and Slovakia. They seemed decent enough. Not as good as what I'v seen in for ex. Spain, but still not the worst

I wasn't there long enough to be able to compare them

We visited DDR, Czechoslovakia and Hungary at the last moments they were behind the iron curtain. Nice memories. We have good friends in Praha from this time. We made a new trip a year after liberation. In all the countries the attitude to soviets was very BAD. It felt odd that a country had to construct a wall to keep its own citizens inside. Normally walls were used in opposite purpose, except in prison. What was funny in socialist time: the amount of different stamps and permissions needed. And strange regulations. Maybe there are files in some archive of a finnish young couple travelling by motorbike around the area. Who might be interested. They must have the consumption of the bike filed cause gas had to be bought by special tickets, if I remeber right. Anyway: people were GREAT!

Our meat goes to Russia. Thru Belarus. Russia is creating problems, because they* don't want to treat every EU country equal. If somebody is interested in this, he knows this. It is not the metter of politics, but agriculture and trade

I will quarrel with You here, all EU countries accept our meat, and don't see anything wrong with them, our services checked the meat, so as other countries for example the Finnish Prime Minister, I think it was Matti Vanhanen, anyway nothing was found to be wrong, it really seems to be a matter of politics, Kremlin just want piss us off for whatever the reason is.

In my area there's no meat imported from Poland or any other country, I guess it's because it's too far from the border.. Anyway, our own agriculture is in pretty bad shape so I don't see why we should import meat from Europe. We must support and protect our own agriculture.

It's obvious because the meat isn't really marked that it's from any country in the shops usually, and our agriculture is in good shape, before You say anything please read some books, articles, anything scientific, not some propaganda newspapers like ''Pravda''.

Before you say something like that please read my previous posts. I'm sick&tired of explaining everybody here that I don't read "Pravda"

I live in a city in a 13 hours drive from Moscow, and there has never ever been any other meat but local (except chicken), which is very good for the local industry and agriculture. And if our goverment will block most of the import from EU, it will be great. For us not you. Sorry but like I said before, nobody cares about our problems and we're not gonna care about someone else's.

Thank you , well I certinly care about the cituation in Russia. But closing yourself in, seperating from others is not the best way to become a good partner. I meant no disrespect, sorry.

One thing is not importing meat to support local farmers, with possibly long notice beforehand, other thing is to ban the meat and call it bad or unhealthy, leaving the Polish meat companies with nothing but trouble.

Yeah, I guess that's not very good. But can you say for sure, quite frankly, that the meat was okay? I can't be so sure...

I am 100% sure that it is totally good and healthy, other countries don't have a problem with it, whole EU was helping us in the negotiations with the Russian government, why Russians do have a problem with it, since nothing is actually wrong?

Then say thank you to your goverment 'cause it's their job to sort these kind of things out. If they want to be friends with the US and enemies with Russia they can sell the meat to America... sounds a bit cynical, but that's the way politics is.

They tried, so as EU, none sucseeded mainly because your government doesn't want to accept the meat, and what's the problem? Your country could accept the meat before, now not? You don't know yourself don't You?

Russia's very big, and I live here far away from Poland and Moscow and there's so much going on down here other than the Polish meat, and it doesnt affect my life at all, so just wish you all the best and I hope that" That time will come one day you'll see when we can all be
friends"

PS My grand-grandmother was from Poland, though I don't know much about her...

I don't see You as my enemy, and my life isn't about meat trading, I'm just very curious and disturbed. Har har. Same to You.

I told you, why Russia is making problems with meat. They doon't want to treat every EU country equal. Russia want to treat Poland (and other countries) apart from EU, because it is easier to have better position in trade.
A farmer who is selling a lot of ee... pig meat to Russia thru Belarus told me that ;-)
